‘Bathing In Brandy’ is a 23-year-old from distillery 35 with 210 bottles released in total. This has had full maturation in a 1st-fill ex-Bourbon barrel, which is a considerable amount of time in a 1st-fill, given the age. The OBs from this distillery don’t really impress me, but 35s from the society are some of my favourites.
Nose
Sweet and fruity, no surprise based on the maturation. Honey, pineapple, banana, butterscotch. Slight notes of leather.
Taste
Talk about flavour! Vanilla (of course), ANZAC biscuits, melon, maple syrup, nutmeg. This had a long and lingering finish that you didn’t want to end.
Conclusion
A sensational aged dram. The folks at SMWS knew what they were doing with this one; the 1st fill has worked wonders, giving it that explosion of sweet and fruity, but you know it’s got some age to it.
